At Archbishop Damiano School, our history is woven with the incredible stories of determination, compassion, and progress that define our school community. Our journey began with a simple yet powerful goal to create a place where every student, regardless of their abilities, could thrive and receive the education they deserve.

In 1965, Archbishop Damiano, the Bishop of Camden, invited five Brothers from Ireland to establish a school for children with Down Syndrome. At that time in the United States, a child with a disability did not have rights to an education. The idea of a free and appropriate public education for all children did not become lawful until the Education for All Handicapped Children Act was passed in 1975.

Ahead of its time, Archbishop Damiano School became a special place for children and their families to learn, grow, and prosper. Over the years, our commitment to inclusivity has grown stronger, and our legacy is enriched by the countless successes of our students, past and present.
